Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the data of 923 recorded storms in different seasons of the year in East Azerbaijan province. Using statistical data (2001 to 2016), rainfall events, Huff curves of each station were plotted in each season. The Huff curves method was used to analyze the temporal distribution of dimensionless precipitation events. Dimensionless precipitation cumulative curves were used to draw empirical Huff curves. Mathematical modeling of 50% Hoff curves was performed and the area under the 50% Hoff curve of definite integration was calculated for each quartile and the precipitation type of each station was determined. The apparent form of the set of curves plotted by the theoretical method was smoother than the empirical method. In spring, the precipitation type of all stations was the third quartile. In autumn, the precipitation type of the stations of Maragheh, Bonab, Sarab, and Malekan was the third quartile, Tabriz was the fourth quartile and Ajabshir was the second quartile. In winter, the precipitation type of Maragheh and Bonab stations was the third quartile, Tabriz and Malekan was the fourth quartile, and Sarab was the second quartile. It can be concluded that the precipitation type of all stations in the region was the third quartile in spring, generally the third quartile in autumn, and a combination of different quartiles (except the first quartile) in winter. The results of this study seem to be useful in the optimal use of rainwater in East Azerbaijan province.
