Migration plays a crucial role in demographic studies because, alongside fertility and mortality rates, it influences the size, structure, and characteristics of the population and has a decisive impact on population distribution and labor force growth. Accordingly, the present study designed to analyze intra and extra provincial migration flows of East Azerbaijan Province. The research is applied and descriptive-analytical. The geographical scope of the study encompasses the counties of East Azerbaijan and their interactions with all other provinces across the country. Data were collected through documentary method, fundamentally based on secondary data from the 2016 census regarding the number of county migrants, covering the period from 2011 to 2016 years. For data analysis, network analysis techniques were employed using softwares such as Excel, ArcGIS, and UCINET. The findings revealed that the highest level of immigration occurred in Osko County, primarily due to population overflow from the city of Tabriz toward the newly established city of Sahand. The immigration connections of this county were also evident with most other counties in the province, though to a lesser extent—particularly with the counties of Ahar, Kaleibar, Herris, and Varzgan. Regarding out-of-province emigration, the highest proportions were directed toward the provinces of Tehran, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, and Qom, reflecting East Azerbaijan’s strong demographic ties with these regions. Among them, Tehran exhibited the highest absorption, largely driven by the emigration from the counties of Tabriz, Sarab, Miyaneh, Maragheh, Shabestar, Bostanabad, and Marand.
